A mass and a commemorative walk are being held today in memory of Ashling Murphy.
The 23-year-old was killed as she jogged along the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly on this day two years ago.
Durrow National School, where she worked as a primary school teacher, has organised the mass at St Colmcille's Church in the town at 10am.
A commemorative walk will also take place today from Digby Bridge, Capincurr Carpark to Ashling's Shrine on the Grand Canal at 3.15pm.
Durrow National School Principal James Hogan described Ashling as "a kind, caring, loving, funny, energetic and beautiful young lady".
He said she has "left a strong legacy behind her, even though she had 23 short years with us".
"Ashling had a special connection with people of all ages but especially to young people," Mr Hogan wrote on the school's website.
"'Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh siad' [Praise the youth and they will flourish] was a quote she loved to share. This will resonate with so many in the future.
"People and pupils of Ashling will always relate to Ashling Murphy as a respectful, talented and beautiful young lady, 'Our shining light' taken from us too soon.
"Her smile and personality was infectious and you didn’t have to know her to really understand what a great person she was," Mr Hogan added.
Josef Puska was found guilty of her murder last year and sentenced to life in prison.
