Aslan have had to cancel their 40th anniversary concert in Dublin after lead singer Christy Dignam suffered a ‘setback’ in his ongoing cancer treatment.
In an emotional video posted online the band said they were “devastated” to cancel the 3Arena show – but noted that ‘Christy’s health is always our priority’.
Dignam is undergoing treatment for a rare blood cancer called amyloidosis and doctors have advised him not to take to the stage on Saturday.
To say we are devastated is an understatement but Christys health as you know is always our priority and we ask you to please respect Christy’s privacy and allow him this time to get through this! 🎶❤️🎶 pic.twitter.com/mUPeTGjqOT

Guitarist Billy McGuinness said it was “devastating news.”
“Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make the 3Arena this Saturday,” he said.
“Christy had a setback with his treatment and on doctor’s advice, there is no way he is being allowed up on stage on Saturday.
“We are devastated as you can imagine and listen, thank you very much for your support.”
Drummer Alan Downey apologised to all the band’s fans.
“We would just like to say how sorry we are for all the fans,” he said. “All the people that have travelled, booked hotels and flights – we know of some people that are actually coming from Australia.
“We are so, so sorry and we just hope someday we will get this right and we’ll all be OK to do the show in the 3Arena sometime in the future.”
The band are now working to organise a new date at the venue and fans are being urged to hold on to their tickets, which will remain fully valid.
