The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has accused Western leaders of supporting terrorism in his country. 

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Assad said Syria must resolve its conflict internally and once again refused to resign. 

The leader criticised Britain in particular, warning of dire consequences if they helped arm Syrian rebels.

The UN now estimates that over 70,000 people have died in the two year long uprising against his rule. 

But Bashar al-Assad says the only way the West can stop the fighting in Syria is by ending their support for rebels.
