There was an average of 66 asylum seeker arrivals to Ireland every day last week.
That’s according to the latest figures from IPAS that show 459 asylum seekers arrived in the country in the seven days ending on May 12th.
It brings the total number of asylum seekers in State accommodation up to 30,256.
Some 45% of those arriving in Ireland last week were single males, 11% were single females and 24% were children.
Jordan nationals accounted for 97 asylum seeker arrivals last week, with 84 coming from Nigeria.
There were also 45 arrivals from Palestine.
There are now 5,821 Nigerian nationals being accommodated by IPAS – the most of any nationality.
There are also 3,607 asylum seekers from Georgia, 3,053 from Algeria and 1,303 from South Africa being accommodated by the State – all of whom are from designated ‘safe’ countries.
In the previous seven-day period, ending on May 5th, there were 610 asylum seeker arrivals to Ireland - an average of 87 per day.
