Gardaí are investigating after asylum seeker tents were attacked and burned in Dublin yesterday.
The victims had been sleeping rough along the Grand Canal before the attack at Clanwilliam Place yesterday afternoon.
No one was injured in the fires.
Tiglin homeless charity co-founder Aubrey McCarthy told Newstalk it appears to have been an attack on asylum seekers.
"Our outreach team contacted me yesterday and they were telling me there was an incident just after lunch," he said.
"The Guards were called and several tents were burnt out - there was lighter fuel poured on them and they were set on fire.
"Nobody was caught but it seemed to be an attack on the people who were staying in those tents."
Mr McCarthy described it as an ‘horrific’ attack on vulnerable people.
"From what I hear it was asylum seekers - I do feel there's a small minority with loud voices," he said.
"The people staying in tents are highly vulnerable.
"The tents don't have walls so they've nowhere to hide and fire is a horrific way to attack someone," he added.
It is believed to be the second such incident in recent weeks after videos on social media earlier this month showed tents being thrown into the Grand Canal.
