He's crowned his comeback by winning the best British male category.

The 67-year-old lives in New York and wasn't at the event last night, shown on ITV - instead sending supermodel Kate Moss to pick up his prize - with this message:

The star-studded bash, staged at the O2 Arena, featured performances by acts such as Beyonce, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams.

The other big winners of the night were Arctic Monkeys who came out on top in two categories - best group and best album.

The band triumphed over One Direction and frontman Alex Turner says the win proves that 'rock and roll' will never die.

But they admitted their double win is still sinking in:

One Direction also walked off with 2 awards and Ellie Goulding picked up the second Brit Award of her career.

The singer was named British Female Solo Artist of the year - despite not having released an album over the past 12 months.

Ellie was presented with the award by Prince - and tells us that she'll use her win as the perfect excuse to celebrate getting older:

One Direction added a bit of their own type of Rock and Roll to the event.

The boys tucked into the free booze as they picked up two awards for Global Success and Best Video.

At one point Harry nearly missed out on collecting a Brit - as he'd been "caught short" in the loo.

Liam says they're honoured to win:

At one stage during the night, Bastille and Rudimental became 'Basti-mental'.

The pair performed a mash up of their songs "Pompeii" and "Waiting All Night" in one of the highlights of the ceremony.

Both also won prizes - Bastille picked up British Breakthrough Act. Rudimental got Best British Single for "Waiting All Night" - and the Hackney quartet say it was the best night of their lives:

Disclosure and Lorde teamed up as well - despite never meeting in person before last night.

Lorde sang 'Royals' over Disclosure's futuristic version of the record. The two artists had only ever spoken to each other over the internet before the show.

So it's hardly surprising that Disclosure are so pleased the duet came off as well as it did:
