The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre says there were over 2,100 calls to their 24 hour Helpline for rape and sexual abuse over the Christmas period last year.
The figures account for December 2012 and January 2013.
During the same period, 50 victims of recent rape and sexual assault were accompanied by trained volunteers to the sexual assault treatment unit in the Rotunda Hospital.
