Ireland's first baby of the New Year was born at almost the stroke of midnight.

Monica Duff gave birth to the healthy baby girl, named Emily Rose, was delivered at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin at 5 seconds past midnight.

Dad Brian Duff says New Year's will never be the same again:In the Rotunda a baby boy was delivered at 24 minutes past midnight weighing in at just over 7 pounds.

While in Cavan General Hospital a baby was born at a quarter to one.
