The latest report from property website Daft-dot-ie shows the average rent has gone up 4.8 percent in the third quarter of 2013, when compared with the same period last year.
The average national rent is now 824 euro per month.
The main increases were in the cities - in Dublin, rents are up 7.6 percent on this time last year - Cork, Galway and Limerick have also seen rises, although Waterford has witnessed a decrease.
