The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan says the force looks forward to fully co-operating with a review of claims of misconduct.
It comes after The Taoiseach Enda Kenny confirmed in the Dáil earlier that Senior Counsel Seán Guerin has been appointed by the Cabinet to examine a dossier of documents handed to him last week by the Fianna Fáil leader.
The Taoiseach says if Mr. Guerin recommends a commission of investigation there will be one.

The claims from whistleblower Sergeant Maurice McCabe allege gardai did not properly investigate a number of serious crimes - including murder.
It has also been announced that there will be statements in the Dáil all day tomorrow on the issues surrounding the whistleblower and garda ombudsman controversies.
Mr. Kenny says the review by the Senior Counsel is appropriate now.
Meanwhile the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has confirmed that it is losing one its its staff.
It says the employee who has not been named is leaving for a senior post in another agency. However GSOC says the departure is pre-planned and is not related to recent events.
While a government minister has said he will not take sides in the dispute between both the Garda Commissioner and a serving member of the force.
Speaking earlier, Brendan Howlin said it is up to the government to decide whether an independent inquiry should be set up to investigate the State response to allegations of garda misconduct.
Sinn Féin is meanwhile calling on the Taoiseach to set aside time in the Dáil this afternoon to discuss the government's response.
Party President Gerry Adams says the government must assure the public about its response to the claims made by Garda whistleblowers.
