The parents of a murdered Irish backpacker have told the Victorian Supreme Court of their heartbreak at the death of their son in Melbourne last year.
David Greene died in hospital two weeks after he was attacked and left unconscious at a party at a St Kilda backpackers hostel last August.
31-year-old Luke Wentholt pleaded guilty to the murder of Mr Greene and one count of recklessly causing serious injury to another Irish backpacker, David Byas.
Mr Greene died in The Alfred hospital on September 7.
His parents travelled from Ireland to deliver their victim impact statements at a pre-sentence hearing yesterday.
