A baby boy has died after a collision with a Jeep near Ballinagare, Co. Roscommon.
The child received treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead. His body has been taken to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
“The reality is there’s parents and a family in mourning,” local senator Eugene Murphy told Newstalk.
“People throughout the region are totally shocked that a baby has lost his life like this and… everyone I’ve talked to is heartbroken for the people involved.”
Gardaí have asked for witnesses to contact them - including any road users with video footage (including dash cam).
