Jack and Grace remain the most popular names in Ireland, according to the CSO.
The annual baby name census shows that 561 Irish babies were named Jack last year, while 339 were named Grace.
The CSO says there was a total of 54,373 babies born in 2023 – a 5.5% fall on 2022.
The top five boys’ names were Jack, Noah, James, Rian and Oisín.
The top five girls’ names were Grace, Fiadh, Emily, Sophie and Lily.
Jack has only fallen off top spot in Ireland once in the last 17 years – when James was most popular in 2016.
Jack and James have both been the top five ever year for the last 25 years.
This is the first year Oisín has made it into the top five.
When it comes to the girls, Grace is back on top of the pile for the first time since 2020.
Grace, Emily and Fiadh have been swapping the top three places every year since 2019 – with Fiadh most popular in 2021 and Emily taking the prize in 2022.
There were almost 5,000 different girls’ names registered in 2023, compared with just under 4,200 different boys’ names.
For the first time in a long time, there were more new entries in the Top 100 for boys than for girls.
New boys’ names in the top 100 include Caelan, Jude, Paddy, Éanna and Dáithí are the five new entrants into the top 100 boys’ names for 2023.
Lucia, Cadhla and Síofra were the three new entrants to the top 100 girls' names.
Fastest riser
Síofra was the fastest riser for the girls up 57 places to 100th.
Caelan sprang up 58 places in the boys’ charts to 50th.
Some of the girls’ names registered in 2023 that were not in the top 100 included Bláithín, Lena, Miroslava, and Demi.
Some of the less frequently used boys’ name registered included Idris, Ultán, Maros, Kobie, and D.
