Ian Bailey's damages action has been hearing secretly taped garda phone calls in which a detective is heard saying - 'that statement has to get chopped up'.
The recording from Bandon Garda Station in June 1997 is a conversation between the now deceased Det Sergeant Liam Hogan and Detective Garda Jim Fitzgerald.
In the conversation the detectives talk about trying to trace a phone call Ian Bailey was seen making from O'Regan's pub the night before Sophie Toscan du Plantier's murder.
They talk about questioning an unidentified woman who lived with the journalist between 1995 and 96 and assert that she's lying and that 'he's got to her'.
Later in the phone conversation Ian Bailey's partner Jules is described as 'very devious' and Sergeant Hogan says a 'statement has to get chopped up'.
