Make-A-Wish is calling on the Irish public to roll up their sleeves for Bake My Day, a fundraising event on Thursday 16th September to help raise vital funds to grant the wishes of seriously ill children across the country.

From building garden play towers to meeting celebrities and gaming laptops, Make-A-Wish granted 56 wishes to children across Ireland last year. These children are living with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, cystic fibrosis and heart conditions. Right now, there are still over 200 seriously ill children on the waiting list to have their wishes granted.

That's why Make-A-Wish is calling on you to get baking on Thursday, September 16th, to help raise vital funds that will help grant the wishes of these children. The Bake My Day campaign was launched by Make-A-Wish ambassadors Lorraine Keane and Peter Devlin, along with their daughters Emelia and Romy, and is proudly supported by Fitzgeralds Family Bakery and Spar.

Everyone who signs up for Bake My Day will receive a special Baker's Party Pack, complete with recipes you can follow and tips on fundraising. If you raise over €100, Make-A-Wish will also gift you a bespoke Bake My Day apron.

Speaking about the fundraising event, Make-A-Wish Susan O'Dwyer said:

“We are delighted to announce this new, fun and family-friendly campaign. There are lots of ways to get involved from hosting a bake sale at work or school, to having a virtual baking competition with your friends, to surprising your neighbours with baked treats and asking that they make a small donation to help bring joy to a sick child.”

So many of us got back into baking during lockdown with our banana breads and fairy cakes so now is the perfect time to revive that passion for a good cause. The children currently on the waiting list with Make-A-Wish are at various stages of the journey to having their wises granted – from application, through working with volunteers to identify their wish, to simply waiting for their wish to be granted. And since Make-A-Wish receives no government funding, events like Bake My Day can make a big difference and make real wishes come true.

Since 1992, Make-A-Wish has granted wishes for more than 2,600 brave children across Ireland. Every wish granted is truly magic for the child, providing much needed respite from their normal routines of hospitals, doctors and treatment.

If you would like to take part in Bake My Day this year and help make more wishes come true, visit www.makeawish.ie/get-involved/bakemyday to register and receive your Baker's Party Pack.
