Ryan Tubridy has welcomed the Grant Thornton report into RTÉ’s handling of his salary.

The report into the broadcaster’s decision not to declare additional payments to Mr Tubridy concludes on the “balance of probabilities”, it was done by RTÉ to make his earnings appear less than €500,000 per year.

It also found that Mr Tubridy’s published salary in 2020 and 2021 was correct and that he had turned down the offer of an exit fee of €120,000 when a contract came to an end

In response, Mr Tubridy said he “welcome[d] the report's findings that I did not claim €120,000 in fees which was due to me in 2020 and that I did not agree with how RTÉ proposed to account for this decision."

He also noted that the report made clear, "that my actual income from RTÉ in 2020 and 2021 matches what was originally published as my earnings for those years and RTÉ has not yet published its top ten earner details for 2022".

There were no errors found in the reports of his salary between 2008 and 2016.

Mr Tubridy also said he was “committed to re-establishing the confidence and trust of my colleagues and listeners” and thanked people for the “huge support” he had received from people in recent weeks.

Speaking ahead of the report’s publication, Irish Independent Ireland Editor Fionann Sheahan said the former Late Late Show presenter does not come off too badly in the report.

“Ryan Tubridy is exonerated in part of the whole scandal,” he told The Pat Kenny Show.

“Let’s just park the Renault deal, the barter account, the strange invoices and so on for a moment and we’ll let people decide on that matter.”

RTÉ Chair Siún Ní Raghallaigh said the report made clear there had been a culture of “poor internal communication and weak processes".

Former RTÉ Director General Dee Forbes did not take part in the review “for medical reasons”.
