Will Taylor Swift accept an invitation to visit the pub from the Banshees of Inisherin when she lands in Ireland next week – or will she ‘Shake It Off’?
The American popstar will perform at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin at the end of June, but publican Luke Mee is hoping she might take a ‘Getaway Car’ to his unique pub in Kilkerrin, Co Galway.
Using original discarded set pieces, the Mee’s Bar owner has nearly perfectly recreated the pub from The Banshees of Inisherin – reportedly one of Taylor’s favourite films.
Mr Mee said the singer was interviewed by Banshees director Martin McDonagh, where she was “shocked” to find out the pub in the film wasn’t real.
“She assumed that the pub was there to come and visit,” he told Newstalk Breakfast.
“She did say if it was ever rebuilt, she would love to come and visit.
“We did rebuild it and the ball is in her court.”
It might seem unlikely that a Galway pub owner could send an actual invite to a global superstar – but as Mr Mee explained, “there’s always someone who knows someone”.
“Even though Taylor Swift is as hard to get as Jesus,” he said.
One the bar’s regulars happens to be Greg Horan, brother of Irish singer and former One Direction member Niall Horan.
Mr Mee said he passed on the invite to Greg, who then passed it on to Niall, who Mr Mee “believes” passed it on to Swift herself.
“So, she’s aware of it,” she said. “I’m fairly sure she’s aware of it.”
He also pointed out the recreated Banshees pub has featured in The New York Times and The Hollywood Reporter – so there’s a good chance the singer may just “stumble upon it”.
Taylor Swift in Ireland
Mr Mee acknowledged Swift couldn’t simply call in for a quiet pint as her dedicated fans would most likely find her.
“It would have to be very confidential,” he said. “Or she would be mobbed.”
Taylor Swift will bring her Eras Tour to Dublin from June 28th to June 30th – with calls to turn the city into ‘Taylor Town’ to mark her visit.
Mr Mee said he was unable to get tickets since they're like "gold dust" - but suggested some Irish fans could bring signs letting her know a pint is waiting for her in Galway.
