Jenny the Donkey has stolen the show at this year’s Golden Globes after the Banshees of Inisherin took home three awards.
Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy won Best Picture and Best Screenplay, while Colin Farrell won Best Actor for his portrayal of the much-maligned islander Pádraic Súilleabháin.
The film, starring Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon, was nominated for a total of eight awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Accepting the award for best screenplay, McDonagh was quick to point out that he had two other actors in mind when he wrote the script.
“As some of you may know, I wrote this script for the two stars of my film, Jenny the Donkey and Minnie the Horse,” he said.
“I was hoping Jenny might’ve been nominated tonight actually, but she’s a female donkey and it’s the Globes so you know …”
“Sorry, too soon?
He also praised Farrell and Gleeson, noting that their “beautiful, nuanced performances just blew me out of the water as usual” and also complimented Condon and Keoghan.

Jenny also got a shout-out from Farrell in his own acceptance speech, as he wished her well in her new home at a sanctuary in the midlands.
“She’s having an early retirement because she said, ‘F**k the film business, your welcome to it – I’m one and done,’” he said. “So, she’s gone.”
The Dubliner also praised McDonagh for the impact he has had on his career.
“Martin McDonagh, I owe you so much man,” he said. “14 years ago, you put me working with Brendan Gleeson - my dance partner - and you changed my life forever in ways that I, begrudgingly, will be grateful to you for forever, for the rest of my days.
“I never expect films to work until they find and audience and when they do it is shocking to me.
“So, I am so horrified by what has happened around Banshees over the last couple of months in a thrilling kind of way.
Soak in the WIN! Congratulations to our winner for Best Actor - Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy, Colin Farrell! ✨😌

He also labelled Condon “extraordinary” and said he was delighted to see the world finally recognising her work.
For Brendan Gleeson, he said: “I just love you so much.”
“To get to cohabitate this creative space with you every day … all I did when I came to work every day was aspire to be your equal.
“I’m not saying I even got there, but the aspiration kept me going and I thank you for that for the rest of my days also.”
The Banshees of Inisherin has also received nine nominations at the Critic’s Choice Awards – which is often seen as a barometer for picking Oscar winners.
The Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12th.
