Actor John Barrowman has caused quite a stir after he kissed another man during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
Barrowman, who was born in Glasgow, was seen reaching out a kissing the man before holding his hand during the sequence to celebrate Gretna Green, the village on the Scottish/English border that is know as a popular destination for eloping couples.

The gay kiss has been interpreted as a clear response and political statement from Barrowman to the recent controversy surrounding homosexuality in the countries participating in the Commonwealth Games.
Homosexual activity remains a criminal offence in 40 of the 53 countries within the Commonwealth.
Barrowman's bold statement however has received mixed feedback from the public, who have taken to social media to voice their support and their distaste of the kiss.
@Team_Barrowman Well done John. Never subtle , your kiss was perfect. #banhomophbia

It is a crime to be gay in 42 of the 53 Commonwealth countries - so John Barrowman kissing a man live on the opening ceremony was inspired!

You know what's quite pathetic. John Barrowman kissed a man and people give a whoopie-do. Why, it's 2014, this is beyond mundane!
