Ireland’s largest radio group, Bauer Media Audio Ireland, says it is committed to reducing the gender pay gap at the organisation next year.
The company, which owns Newstalk, has published its first Gender Pay Gap report, which measures the difference between what men and women are paid.
The figures show that the average (or mean) gender pay gap at BMAI for 2024 is 15.2% while the median gender pay gap is 14%, both in favour of men.
Employers with more than 150 employees in Ireland are now required to publish their gender pay gap data before the end of 2024 and within six months of their reference date.
BMAI has June 30th, 2024, as its reference date.
BMAI said factors driving the gender pay gap at the group include a higher proportion of men in higher paid, senior management roles and the acquisition of two independently run regional radio stations, iRadio and RedFM and Media Sales House, Media Central, all three of which are led by predominantly male senior managers.
The group says it is promising to develop policies and procedures to support, promote and attract more females to its business, including at senior levels.
Chris Doyle, BMAI Group CEO, said: “We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.
"While the gender pay gap does not indicate that men and women are paid differently for the same work, we recognise the importance of addressing this issue.
"We take the gender pay gap seriously and are dedicated to implementing measures that will help close this gap in the future.”
