The Director-General of the BBC says the Corporation will hold an inquiry into the sex abuse allegations against Jimmy Savile.

But George Entwhistle says it will only happen after a criminal investigation has been conducted by the police.

He has apologised to women who claim they were sexually abused by Savile.

A growing number of people claim a culture within the organisation allowed inappropriate behaviour to flourish.

The BBC had said originally it found ‘no evidence’ of any record of allegations of misconduct concerning alleged abuse of under-age girls by him.

It came after an ITV documentary featured claims from women going back to the 1970s that he abused girls in his Rolls-Royce and at BBC TV Centre.

His nephew Roger Foster said his family was ‘disgusted and disappointed’ by the allegations.

5 women claim they were molested and in one case raped by the star as teenage girls.

They claim the attacks took place at his dressing room at the BBC, in his Rolls-Royce car and in one incident in his caravan which was parked at a school in Surrey in England.

Speaking on the ‘Today’ programme on BBC Radio 4 Mr. Entwhistle gave the stance of the Corporation.
