Ben Dunne has been remembered as a generous man who would do anything to ensure the happiness of his children and grandchildren.
The former director of Dunnes Stores passed away at the age of 74 last week.
Figures from the world of business and politics are among those paying tribute to one of Ireland’s best-known businessmen at his funeral in Dublin today.
The Cork native also founded Ben Dunne Gyms – with members of staff forming a guard of honour as his remains were carried into St. Mochta's Church in Porterstown today.
His son Mark told the funeral he was a generous man, who cherished his family.
“He was a brilliant and loving father and grandfather who would do anything to ensure the happiness and joy of his children and grandchildren,” he said.
“There was never a day that would go by without him calling each of us to check in and we are all going to miss those phone calls.”
Ben Dunne is survived by his wife Mary and four children.
He is due to be buried in Castleknock Churchyard today.
