It is better to bite the bullet and call off an engagement rather than going through with it for the sake of saving face, according to a relationship coach.

Dating and relationship coach Frances Kelleher told Moncrieff that “the less time wasted for everybody, the better”.

“What I would say is the best way to deal with this is number one, just bite the bullet,” she said.

“Be honest, don’t waste any more time – there's no easy way of doing it.

“It’s much better that you do it now than you get married, you’re going into something, your heart isn’t in – or if you’re the person that has been let down, that you know you’re marrying someone that isn’t all in.”

Ms Kelleher said the best way to cope with the experience is to reframe it, and perhaps instead host a party with family and friends.
