Ireland’s fastest-growing international tech conference is returning to Cork this month – with an expanded programme featuring some of the top names in deep and emerging technology.

BeyondIoT offers Irish businesses an unmissable chance to hear about the latest technological trends and opportunities while meeting with the world’s top investors, entrepreneurs and companies.

Presented by the Nimbus Research Centre at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), the conference is expanding into a two-day event this year.

Day One will see entrepreneurs and strategic thinkers from around the globe outlining how Irish businesses can take advantage of the latest breakthroughs in connected technology.

Award-winning tech guru Dr Sally Eaves, known as the ‘torchbearer for ethical tech,’ will take centre stage as event MC - before outlining her vision for how smart cities can help in the fight against climate change.

With a focus on the latest in AI, cyber security, blockchain and the power of data, the two-stage line-up also includes US Airforce CTO Lauren Knausenberger, Microsoft start-ups chief Andrew MacAdam, IBM Lead Product Architect Tristian O'Gorman and 410 Labs CEO Dave Troy.

Event organiser Richard Linger, head of the Nimbus Technology Gateway at CIT, said BeyondIoT has become “probably the most important technology conference in Ireland.”

“It brings people from the four corners of the world to Cork, to CIT and to Nimbus to explain the trends, issues and opportunities in technology around the globe,” he said.

“For businesses in Ireland this is imperative. We have China on one side with the US on the other and we are in the middle.

“How do we reconcile that? How do we ensure that Irish industry can maintain its key position in the world when you have these two goliaths on either side of it?”

Workshops

The second day features a range of workshops offering start-ups the chance to meet with experts from Microsoft, Arrow Electronics, Nimbus and a host of other international tech and commercialisation experts.

Based on the theme of ‘Creating your new Technology,’ the workshops offer new and established companies an unrivalled opportunity to get advice and guidance on attracting invesment, driving innovation and fostering new commercial relationships from the very best in the business.

Global tech

Mr Linger said the event makes use of the extensive range of contacts Nimbus has built up in the US, China and elsewhere to bring some of the world's most influential brands and businesses to Cork.

“The attendee list is quite broad,” he said.

“It is academics, start-ups, entrepreneurs, VC investors; it is C-level executives, it is the large corporates and their key people.

“There is something for everybody here because you are dealing with both strategic concepts and deep tech. That is what we pride ourselves on – being able to bring those two dimensions together.”

BeyondIoT is running at the Cork Institute of Technology on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st January.

Tickets are available here, with special discount offer for start-ups and academics.
