Big Ben is to chime non-stop for 3 minutes to help ring in London 2012.

Special permission has been granted for the landmark to be allowed to toll out of regular sequence.

It’ll strike more than 42 times in 3 minutes, just after 8.10 on Friday morning to herald the beginning of the first day of the Games.
