The Banshees of Inisherin is in line for a host of awards tonight as the Golden Globes attempts to reinvent itself.
The Martin McDonagh hit has been nominated for eight awards – the highest number any film has received for 19 years.
The Globes were not aired on television last year amid ongoing controversy over ethical lapses and a lack of diversity in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which organises the awards.
The HFPA has since made efforts to reform itself and this year’s event is being broadcast on a once-off basis by NBC.
Meanwhile, invitations have once again been sent out to the biggest stars in Hollywood – although it remains to be seen who will attend.
In all, there is Irish interest in eight awards tonight – with the Banshees of Inisherin getting eight nominations and Domhnall Gleeson also in line for an award for his turn in The Patient.
Speaking to The Anton Savage Show this weekend, Joe.ie Entertainment Editor Rory Cashin tipped Colin Farrell to win Best Actor.
He warned that Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan could end up taking votes off each other for the Supporting Actor award and warned that he does not expect Kerry Condon to win Supporting Actress.
He said he also expects Martin McDonagh to win Best Screenplay.
