The biggest political group in the European Parliament the European People's Party (EPP) will hold a major congress in Dublin next week.
During the event the EPP - of which Fine Gael is a member - will launch its EU-wide campaign for the European elections in May.
Around 2,000 participants are expected to attend the congress on March 6th and 7th.
These will include the leaders of EU institutions, Heads of State and government, party leaders, ministers and national and European parliamentarians.
It will also select the EPP candidate for the election of the President of the European Commission.
Several names have been mentioned as possible contenders for the EPP nomination including Jean-Claude Junker - a former Prime Minister of Luxembourg - and the former Latvian leader, Valdis Dombrovskis.
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny had been named as a possible candidate but he has stated that he wants to see out his term as Taoiseach.
Fine Gael MEP for the South Constituency Sean Kelly says the congress is a major boost for the capital. And he believes that the Taoiseach will stay where he is at the moment.
