Women in Galway, and across Ireland, are dressing up as part of a campaign for National Bike Week.
Bike Week is held over an extended week each year, with bike-themed events organised by local authorities, community and cycling groups.
The event was due to be held in June, but has been postponed until now.
Martina Callanan is deputy chair of the Galway Cycling Campaign.
She told Newstalk Breakfast: "We're very excited to present a really comprehensive programme of events, in digital and in person, as part of the Galway Cycling Campaign.
"Today we're kicking off with an online social media event, we're joining women around the world for the annual Fancy Women Bike Ride.
"So we're asking women throughout Galway city and county, and indeed across Ireland, to join in - plan a route, dress up in your fancy glad rags, if you ever wanted to wear a ballgown on a bike today's your day.
"And share pictures of you on your blinged up bike online with #FancyWomenGalway or #FWBR2020.
Galway city & county is joining Izmir, Istanbul, Milan, Berlin, Montpellier, Cologne, Washington, Vancouver and other cities for the annual (virtual) Fancy Women Bike Ride #FWBR2020

"Women around the world are joining in from Turkey, the US, Canada, Spain, Italy.
"It's a big global event for women to reclaim the streets and to visible on our bikes and in society."
"Our Government is asking us to walk or cycle whenever possible.
"Again because of COVID restrictions, there's not as many in-person events perhaps as we would normally expect for Bike Week.
"But people have gotten creative, they're online and there's lots of cycle skills events happening in person and online throughout the country".
