Bill Cosby jokingly gave a warning to a female member of the audience during his show in Canada last night, telling her to be careful drinking around him.
Cosby made the remark during his second performance in a row in London, Ontario, after a string of cancellations amid sexual assault allegations from more than 15 women.
Some of the women accuse Cosby of drugging them by putting something in their drinks before allegedly assaulting them.
When one audience member, a woman, got up from one of the front rows and walked past the stage, Cosby inquired as to where she was going. When she replied saying she was going to get a drink, Cosby responded: “You have to be careful about drinking around me.” His remark was met with loud applause.
A few minutes later a heckler yelled at Cosby calling him a rapist and was subsequently removed from the theatre by police.
As the crowd started to boo the man, Cosby stood up and asked them not to respond. “No, no, stop,” he said, waving his hands.
After the show, the 77-year-old comedian issued a statement through his publicist, addressing the incident:
“Dear fans: one outburst but over 2,600 loyal, patient and courageous fans enjoyed the most wonderful medicine that exist for humankind. Laughter. I thank you, the theatre staff (Budweiser Gardens), the event organisers and the London, ON community for your continued honour and support. I’m far from finished.”
