A man who was abused by former basketball coach Bill Kenneally says he has closure from today.

Kenneally has been jailed for 14 years and two months on ten counts of indecent assault.

He abused the ten boys while they were in his care as a coach.

The sentences are to be served consecutively - meaning he will serve roughly 17 months for each offence.

Mr Kenneally, formerly of Summerville Avenue in Waterford city, pleaded guilty to the crimes on dates between 1984 and 1987.

Victim impact statements were read to Waterford Circuit Criminal Court, as was an apology from Mr Kenneally.

His victims left the courtroom as the apology was read out yesterday.

The nature of the abuse involved the use of handcuffs with his victims being tied up.

He also took Polaroid photographs of the boys in specific poses, and threatened to release them.

One of his vicitms, Jason Clancy, contacted gardaí in 2012 to make a formal complaint about Kenneally.

He decided to do so after reading about the victims of Jimmy Savile in the UK.

Mr Clancy, now aged 45, gave his reaction to the sentence on Newstalk Lunchtime.
