A post-mortem exam is due to take place today on the body of a man killed following a shooting in Blanchardstown on Sunday.

It happened at around 8pm on Christmas Eve at Browne's Steakhouse.

The restaurant had been full of customers at the time.

Two men were brought to Connolly Hospital where one of them, aged in his 20s and believed to be the gunman, was pronounced dead.

Gardaí had been unable to confirm the nature of his injuries.

They will be examined by the State Pathologist at the City Morgue in Whitehall today.

The Garda Technical Bureau were on the scene in Blanchardstown again today, 26-12-23.

A second man aged in his 40s is currently being treated for gunshot wounds and remains in serious condition.

No arrests have been made in relation to the gun attack.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has expressed his solidarity with those working in the restaurant at the time.

“[I am] shocked to hear about the shooting today in Blanchardstown in a well-known family restaurant I’ve visited many times,” he said.

“A full Garda investigation is underway. My thanks to them and solidarity to staff and customers.”

Armed Garda patrols were increased across Dublin on Christmas Day following the shooting.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee condemned the attack.

“I deplore the violence in Blanchardstown tonight,” she said.

“This viciousness has resulted in unimaginable human suffering this Christmas.

“I’m thinking of the bereaved, those who were at the scene, and indeed all the emergency service personnel working tonight and over Christmas who have to deal with this senseless violence.

“I call on anyone with information of any kind to contact An Garda Siochana.”

Investigation

An incident room has been established at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer.

Local Gardaí are being helped by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

In a statement released yesterday, Gardaí said they were aware that videos of the incident have been shared on social media.

“We are appealing to the public for these videos not to be further distributed,” they said.

“We are also appealing to the public to be aware of a significant level of speculation, misinformation, and disinformation which is in circulation.”

Anyone with information or footage of the attack is advised to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station.
