Homelessness has become a massive issue in recent years, with thousands of people across the country now without homes.

Focus Ireland says there has been "an unprecedented rise" in the number of families losing their homes in the past 18 months, with more than 50 families now losing their homes each month.

Last night Focus Ireland asked business leaders to sleep out for one night to 'Shine a Light' on homelessness, sending a message of solidarity and hope to people experiencing homelessness in Ireland today.

Taking part was none other than Newstalk's own Bobby Kerr, host of Down to Business.

Here are Bobby's video updates from throughout the night.

Other notable figures taking part included Head of Google's Irish operations Ronan Harris, CEO of Keeling's Fruit Catherine Keeling, Head of Global Revenue Operations with Dropbox Adrienne Gormley, Head of Irish Operations at Paypal Louise Phelan, CEO of Vodafone Ireland Anne O’Leary

"Now you don’t need me to tell you that Homelessness in Ireland is a serious issue," Bobby said before the event. "Well I’m glad to say that I’m doing something small about it on Down to Business."

In 2014, Focus Ireland helped over 11,000 people in need of its services.  In April this year, 1,118 children were sleeping in emergency accommodation and every day since then at least one other family has lost their home.

Focus Ireland work to prevent people from losing their homes, and support those who are homeless, helping them to cope and get back on their feet. It also advocates for policies and system change that will bring about an end to homelessness in Ireland.
