Bodies of man and 3-year-old boy found in Dublin canal
An investigation is under way after two bodies were discovered in Ashtown in West Dublin this afternoon. The bodies, believed to be that of a father and child, were found in a small amount of water in a stream linked to the Royal Canal behind the Ashington housing estate.
Taliban faction claims responsibility for Pakistan park bombing which has killed 65 people
A faction of the Taliban has claimed responsibility for a suicide bomb attack in Pakistan which has killed at least 65 people and wounded 300 others outside a park in the eastern city of Lahore. The explosion took place in the parking area of Gulshan Iqbal Park, just a few feet away from some children's swings. The group says Christians were the target of the explosion, who were gathering to celebrate the Easter holiday.
Riot police confront mob in Brussels Square
Water cannon have been used to disperse hundreds of suspected far-right protesters gathered at the Place De La Bourse. A March Against Fear had been due to take place at the square, which has become a shrine to the 28 victims of the city's twin attacks. It was called off by the event organisers after Belgium's interior minister urged protesters not to attend, saying police were too stretched.
Celebrations mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising
4,000 defence force personnel and around 250 army vehicles have begun making their way through the streets of for the Easter Sunday Parade. The procession began at St Stephen's Green, before moving past St Patrick's Cathedral and College Green to the GPO, which was the rebel base of operations during the Rising. Children laid flowers and there was a ceremonial reading of the proclamation by Captain Peter Kelleher - a re-enactment of the actions of rebel leader Patrick Pearse on Easter Monday 1916.
French Prime Minister insists that fans will be safe at Euro 2016
French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has reassured fans of their safety for the upcoming European Championships in France this summer. There have been growing fears that terrorists may target the tournament in the wake of attacks in Paris and Brussels, but Valls has insisted that the necessary security measures will be in place. “These fans zones will be secure, closed, bags will be searched and at the same time the party will take place,” he told France 2 television.
