The body of missing television doctor Michael Mosley has been found in a cave on the Greek island of Symi. 

The island’s deputy mayor said the remains were found in a cave network on the island.

Dr Mosley's wife has confirmed his death - paying tribute to her "wonderful and brilliant" husband.

Emergency services have been searching for 67-year-old Dr Mosley since who was last seen on Wednesday afternoon. 

He was on holiday on the Greek island of Symi but vanished in “broad daylight” at around 1.30PM on Wednesday after he left his wife and friends for a walk along a local beach.

They are facing extreme heat and difficult conditions in the search, with one emergency worker describing it as a “race against time”. 

Dr Mosley was one of the presenters of the series Trust Me, I'm A Doctor on the BBC. 

The 67-year-old is also known for appearing on television programmes like This Morning and The One Show.  

He hosted the Just One Thing health podcast for the BBC. 

His programmes have won an RTS and Emmy award and he has previously been named medical journalist of the year by the British Medical Association. 

The day he went missing, Dr Mosley had left his phone at the house of friends and told his wife he would see her again back there.

The path from the beach is only 20 minutes to the town and police have checked footage from CCTV cameras and nothing came up to suggest he made it to the town.
