A body has been found near the Cliffs of Moher amid a search for a boy in the area who went missing six days ago.

The body has been removed by hearse to University Hospital Limerick where formal identification will be made.

At around 10am today, the occupants of a pleasure craft reported seeing something in the water off the Clare coast around 2kms north of Doolin.

Watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre in Kerry alerted the Doolin unit, the RNLI and Gardaí.

On arriving at the location, Doolin Coast Guard personnel soon found the body.

A search operation had been taking place in the area after a 12-year-old boy went missing last week.

It is understood the boy was holidaying with family from overseas when he went missing.

The multi-agency operation involved personnel from a total of eight counties.
