Gardaí have stood down from their search of Sebastian Palma Sigmond following the discovery of a body on Achill Island. 

The body was discovered on Sunday evening in Dooagh area of the island. 

Mr Sigmond has been missing since Friday evening after going on a walk, and Gardaí carried out an extensive sea and land search. 

It is understood the 18-year-old had been on holidays with family on the island.

Gardaí thanked the media and public for their assistance in the search for the teenager.
