A murder investigation has been launched by Gardaí after a woman's body was found at a County Cavan home last night.

The remains of a woman in her 50s were found at a home in a rural area near Ballyconnell last night.

Her body was brought to Cavan General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A man in his 60s has also been brought to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.

A man in his 30s was arrested at a seperate location in connection with the incident.

The scene remains sealed off this morning, and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.
