A post mortem examination will be carried out today on the body of a boy (2) in Limerick.

The toddler was found at an apartment on Parnell Street in the city at around 4:30pm yesterday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his remains were taken to University Hospital Limerick.

Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis will carry out the post mortem later.

The results are expected to determine what kind of investigation - if any - will be carried out in relation to the incident.
