Gardaí in Wicklow searching for a missing man off Arklow pier have discovered a body washed up on a beach some two miles away from Arklow town. A rescue operation was launched after a car plunged into the water off the pier at around 6am this morning.
A crane was used to retrieve a car. A man in his 30s was inside the car at the time.
A woman in her 20s managed to escape and raise the alarm. She was taken to hospital but its not thought to have suffered any serious injury.
The body found on Clogga Beach this afternoon is believed to be that of the missing man. The search has now been stood down.
Reporter with the Wicklow News is Michael Kelly. He says details about the woman and the victim are still unclear.
