A boy (13) has died after being knocked down in Co. Donegal last night.

It happened in Ballymacarry on the main road from Buncrana to Carndonagh at about 10.30 pm.

Gardaí say a second pedestrian - a man in his late 50s - was also hurt and has been taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and his remains have been taken to Letterkenny hospital. A post mortem examination will be carried out later today.

The road is closed for a forensic examination and gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact them at Buncrana station on 074 9320540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
