A 17-year-old boy has been found not guilty of the murder but guilty of the manslaughter of another teenage boy in a Dublin park.

18-year-old Azzam Raguragui died following a fight between two groups of boys over a bike.

On the evening of May 10th 2019, two groups of boys met up in Finsbury Park in Dundrum and a fight broke out.

Dozens of boys gave different evidence about what happened next, but it ended with 18-year-old Azzam Raguragui being stabbed five times.

A 17-year-old boy, who can’t be named because of his age, admitted his manslaughter but denied his murder.

It was the Prosecution’s case that the accused - who was 16 at the time - assembled a group of people, armed himself with a knife and stabbed Azzam.

However, the accused said it was self-defence.

He said he had been trying to break up a fight and he didn’t mean to hurt anyone.

In the end, the jury reached a majority decision that he was not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

Azzam’s mother reacted emotionally in court when the verdict was read out – crying out ‘it’s not fair’.
