A 10-year-old boy has been killed at an airport in Alabama after a huge arrivals-departures sign fell on him.

Two other children and their mother are in hospital the woman is said to be in a critical condition.

It took six people to lift the heavy sign off the injured. 

The airport in Birmingham has only just completed the first phase of a $200 million modernisation.
