Bray has been named one of the world’s most “underrated travel destinations” by Time Out.
The Wicklow town features on the list alongside the likes of Mongolia, Cabo Rojo in Puerto Rico and the World Heritage city of Cuenca, Ecuador.
Time Out said the list was compiled by its “global network of travel writers and editors” who were asked to choose “the world’s most overlooked travel destination”.
Describing Bray as “the Brighton of Ireland”, the magazine notes that it was the arrival of the railway in 1854 that made it so popular.
“After years of decline, its mile-long Victorian seafront now buzzes with cafés and restaurants,” it says.
“Stroll from the harbour along the esplanade to the 800-foot high Bray Head, worth the hour’s climb for panoramic views from its rocky summit.”
The magazine advises visitors to stop in at Butler & Barry Gastrobar before grabbing a Guinness at the Harbour Bar.
Bray comes in at 13th on a list that includes some stunning destinations:
- Mongolia
- Lake Bacalar, Mexico
- Cuenca, Ecuador
- Srebrenik, Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico
- Gippsland, Australia
- Plymouth, England
