Of all the trash that eventually ends up in the ocean, the one that appears to get more attention that most is the plastic, six-pack rings.

In 2015, the Ocean Conservatory group conducted a study, using 561,895 volunteers, and combined they collected 16,186,759 pounds of trash.

Over the course of the study, they discovered 57 marine mammals, 440 fish and 22 sharks, skates and sting rays were found entangled in plastic, while 46 sea turtles were also found caught up in the plastic trash, with the study stating that "trash like plastic bags, plastic food wrappers and balloons are among the most common items ingested by sea turtles".

To combat this, Florida’s Saltwater Brewery have created these new rings, which are made of barley and wheat remnants from brewing, and are completely safe for fish to feed on.

According to the video below, while this is a major investment for the small company that has been created by fishermen, surfers and other lovers of the sea, if some of the major breweries got on board with the project, the extra cost of manufacturing the edible rings would eventually drop to the point of being just barely above the current cost of the plastic rings.
