Richard Bruton, was speaking after dramatic events in Leinster House overnight - the Dail and the Seanad sat into the early hours of this morning to pass the bill to liquidate the former Anglo Irish Bank.

The General Secretary of the Irish Bank Officials Association says staff at IBRC have been 'shafted' by the Government.

Larry Broderick says workers at the bank face great uncertainty about whether they'll still have a job - and what terms and conditions will be attached to any new contracts under NAMA.

The IBOA says KPMG has agreed to a meeting to discuss the impact liquidation will have on staff.

Minister Richard Bruton says he understands the uncertaintly felt by the 850 workers at IBRC - but he says many of them will be redeployed to NAMA.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Social Protection says Ireland needs the understanding of the ECB.

Minister Burton says the decision to rush through legislation overnight was "appropriate", and the focus now must be on pushing Ireland's debt out to allow for economic growth.

Minister Burton says it's too early to say if a deal will have an impact on forthcoming budgets - and the Government will have to wait and see how the ECB decides to proceed:
