Enoch Burke’s family turned up outside the White House to protest during the Taoiseach’s visit.
As Micheál Martin and Donald Trump discussed a range of Irish and international issues, the jailed school teacher’s parents and two others brandished banners.
One read, ‘ENOCH BURKE 153 DAYS IN PRISON’, while another said ‘AMERICA NEEDS TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT IRELAND’.
A third declared, ‘MICHEAL [sic] MARTIN DENIES CHRISTIAN LIBERTIES IN IRELAND’ and the final sign proclaimed there was, ‘NO RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IN IRELAND’.

The family declined to comment about whether they had been invited to the White House and Mr Martin said he had no knowledge of the family’s movements.
On Sunday, Elon Musk, who currently serves as one of President Trump’s senior advisors, retweeted to his 219 million followers the word ‘Wow’ in response to the claim that Mr Burke was being stripped of his salary because of his refusal to use a student’s preferred pronouns.
Mr Burke, who was suspended from Wilson’s Hospital School after allegations that he ‘exploded’ at a staff meeting and disrupted a celebratory mass, is being held in Mountjoy Prison.
After his suspension, he continued to turn up at the school and Gardaí were forced to escort him off the premises.
