The Social Protection Minister has hit out at the government's Economic Management Council.

Joan Burton's not happy that big departments like her own, Education and Health aren't included in the group.

The Taoiseach, Tanaiste and the Finance and Public Expenditure Ministers sit on the EMC which oversees economic policy, and had a major role to play in putting together the budget.

All four members of the group have defended it in the past, but in an Irish Times interview today, Joan Burton's expressed concern that the system doesn't leave enough time for the wider cabinet to discuss the options chosen.
