There is good news for commuters as bus Éireann has introduced free Wi-Fi at 7 stations nationwide.

The service is available from now at Busáras in Dublin, Parnell Place in Cork, Ceannt Station in Galway, Colbert Station in Limerick, Waterford Bus Station, Sligo Station, and Ballina Station.

The stations have a combined weekly footfall of around 200,000 people.

At the moment half of the Expressway coaches of the company are equipped with Wi-Fi and the rest of the fleet will be given the service in the coming weeks.

Wi-Fi an 'essential part of business'

The roll-out has been funded by the National Transport Authority.

The Minister for Public and Commuter Transport Alan Kelly has welcomed the news.

"Access to Wi-Fi is an essential part of modern business and education, and as a Government we will continue to support such developments" he said.

Some Bus Éireann customers can already avail of free Wi-Fi on many inter-city, commuter and city services, and this has proved popular.

"Free Wi-Fi on our services has proven very popular with customers who increasingly want to be connected for work or leisure while on the move and we would expect the in-station Wi-Fi to be just as well-used" said Andrew McLindon of Bus Éireann.
