Cabinet is expected to renew the advice to avoid all non-essential international travel today.

Ministers are meeting to discuss the restrictions on international travel when they meet today.

They will also discuss concerns over whether people are following public health guidelines in pubs and restaurants.

The current travel guidelines require anyone arriving into Ireland to quarantine for 14 days.

The government was due to announce a ‘green list’ of countries people could travel to without do so this week; however, that is now expected to be delayed until July 20th.

Temperature checks at airports will also be considered at today’s meeting.

The Transport Minister Eamon Ryan confirmed the changes to Newstalk’s On The Record yesterday.

He said not every passenger would be subject to the temperature checks – but insisted it was important to have a 'certain element of testing' for those arriving in the country.

Speaking to Red FM this morning, the Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed the 'green list' will now be pushed back until the end of the month.

“We will push back a decision to the latter part of July,” he said.

“Why are we doing that? Because what is our overarching objective for the next six weeks? I want to get the schools open.

“I want to get as many children back in school as possible at the end of august.

“We are taking a cautious approach to reopening international travel. A very cautious approach.”

It is expected the green list will be subject to review every two weeks after it is introduced.

Cabinet will also discuss the level of compliance with public health guidelines in pubs around the country after social media images showed apparent breaches over the weekend.

Eighteen new COVID-19 cases were announced yesterday, taking the official death toll in Ireland to 1,741.
