The Cabinet is due to consider which projects will have to be put on hold to make up for cost overruns at the new National Children's Hospital.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe will brief his Cabinet colleagues on capital projects that will be impacted by the overruns.
€50 million has to be found in the health budget this year, with fears over the replacement of scanners in many hospitals.
Another €50 million has to come from other Departments, and Ministers will be working to protect their own briefs.
Health issues are set to dominate the Cabinet meeting.
Minister Donohoe will also update the Cabinet on the Labour Court recommendation on nurses' pay and conditions.
Following the Cabinet meeting, attention will move to the Dáil chamber this afternoon.
Health Minister Simon Harris will apologise for telling the House that the budget for the hospital was on track when he knew it wasn't.
Confidence motion
Sinn Féin, meanwhile, are likely to try to change the business of the Dáil to allow a motion of no confidence in Minister Harris to be debated tomorrow.
The party has claimed that his apology isn't enough.
However, Fianna Fáil's hands are tied by the confidence and supply arrangement with the Government - meaning the motion looks set to fail.
Fianna Fáil deputy leader Dara Calleary said they won't support the motion.
He explained: "We want to see what he says in the Dáil today in terms of correcting the Dáil record and apologising for misleading the Dáil.
"What we won't be supporting is a sham motion of no confidence, which is purely designed as political posturing.
"It will not get information, and it won't reduce the overspend on the children's hospital."
